Rheingold Express
The maiden voyage of the first luxury train of the "Deutsche Reichsbahn" (German State Railway), the Rheingold, took place on the 15th, May 1928 from Hoek van Holland to Basel and lasted about 11 hours. At that time the Rheingold was still being pulled on `steam´. The name alone is somewhat mystic and was taken from the ancient Germanic saga of the "Nibelungen". The Second World War brought an abrupt end of this service
