Dear Mr. Diekmann!
Dear people at Aerosoft!
Just coming back from Ethiopia we would like to keep you up to date.
After driving south in the second week of our stay we turned to the direction of Guder-Nekemte in the company of Abba Markos, the head of the Vinzentiner and vice Bishop of Nekemte, who visited us in Germany last summer. We were also being accompanied by our local priest Peter Heuel.
In Guder we were already expected by the Daughters of Mary and of course by the children. They were all waiting for us to cover us in flowers and to welcome us with their songs. After a short break the sister showed us around the house and we were really surprised to find it being so clean and orderly which is actually very untypical of Ethiopia.

They were especially proud to show us their new aquisitions which were made possible by everyones donations. To preserve a healthy diet for the children, having fresh milk and meat, a couple of cows and oxen were bought. Then we were shown the goats and all the chicken which are kept for breeding to provide the children with fresh eggs and meat in the hope they can even offer part of the products for sale.
Now it was time to take a look at the dorms which had undergone some renovations lately, again thanks to the donators.
The school and classrooms were also re´-decorated and equipped with new books and other materials..
The money we have brought them this time is all meant for building a new well with a pump. At the moment the children still have to walk quite a bit to a distant well to fetch water for everyone. During the dry season though water is very limited and sometimes not available at all for drinking purposes as its also used by the animals. So you see its really importnat to have a new well.
The evening ended with a little party where the children sang and showed us their favourite games.
We were being asked to thank all of you for your kind and generous support. For them it is a huge relief not to fear the closing of this school and camp.
We too would like to thank you for the support. It is always a tough experience to see the poverty and hardship of the people but it is also very good to see how these children, most of them who have lost their parents, can now lead a "normal" life and can hope for a better future.
THANK YOU, in the name of all "Guder" children.
