Die meisten Flugsimulator-Fans bevorzugen Flüge, die nicht mehr als zwei Stunden dauern, da vor allem Start und Landung spannend sind. Gerade deshalb sind Kurzstreckenflüge und -flugzeuge so beliebt.

Die Bombardier CRJ-Serie gehört zu den meistgenutzten Regionalflugzeugen – im Schnitt startet alle 10 Sekunden eins von ihnen. Der CRJ ist auf fast jedem Flughafen der Welt zuhause. Obwohl er bei Passagieren nicht ganz so beliebt ist, da er sehr klein ist und größere Personen nicht einmal aufrecht in dem Jet stehen können, schätzen die Fluggesellschaften den CRJ als zuverlässige und effiziente Maschine. Er befindet sich noch heute in Produktion, und auch wenn aktuellere Modelle angenehmere Sitze und bessere Geräuschdämmung bieten, wird es wohl nie ein wirklich komfortables Flugzeug.

Piloten hingegen lieben den CRJ, weil er kräftig und agil ist und Spaß macht zu fliegen. Er wird oft als „sportlich“ bezeichnet. Außerdem ist er anspruchsvoller als ein moderner Airbus oder eine Boeing, da das FMS eingeschränkt ist. Es verfügt z.B. nicht über Auto-Throttle und nur über beratende vertikale Navigation.
